23 January -- Festa in Desponsatione Beatæ Mariæ Virginis
In the old Carmelite calendar, today was once the feast of the betrothal of Our Lady to St Joseph.
The Magnificat antiphon for 2d Vespers from the Discalced Carmelite usage:
Thy betrothals, Virgin Mother of God, announced joy to the whole world : for from Thee dawned the Sun of Justice, Christ our God : who dissolving the curse, gave blessing : and confounding death, gave us life eternal. [My translation; rely on at your peril.]
The collect from Carmelite Rite of the Holy Sepulchre:
Amen
Graciously and mercifully hear the plea of Thy servants, O God, so that we who have gathered to celebrate the Betrothal of the virgin Mary, Mother of God, may at her intercession be saved by Thee from pressing evils: through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. [Translation from the old (1953) Typis Poliglotis Vaticanis, Latin/English edition.]
