28 NOVEMBER

For the Vincentians and the Daughters of Charity this is the feast day of St. Catherine Labouré. It was to St. Catherine that Our Lady appeared on May 2, 1806 and gave the design for the Miraculous Medal.

At Knavesmire in York, the Blessed Fr. James Thompson was martyred on this day in 1582 because of his priesthood and loyalty to the papacy. St. Margaret Clitherow used to visit his grave and that of the other martyrs buried under the gallows.

This is also the old feast of St. Sosthenes who was with St. Paul when he wrote his first Epistle to the Corinthians -- 1 Corinthians 1:1-3.

This is also the birthday of Mary Bridget Cahill, who, although not yet formally canonized, being still alive, is looked upon by many as approaching the hieghts of sanctity due to the sweet and cheerful manner in which she bears the heavy burden of being married to. . . . .me.

Happy Birthday, Mary.
