12 NOVEMBER

. . . .in the traditional calendar is the feast of the other St. Martin, this one being Martin I, pope and martyr. In the Pauline rite, this is the feast of St. Josaphat, the Ukrainian Byzantine Rite bishop and matyr who died for his loyalty to the See of Peter. His feast is celebrated in the traditional rite in two days on November 14th.

In the diocese of Aberdeen in Scotland this was the feast of St. Machar (sometimes seen as Mochar or Mochumna), called the Apostle of the Picts. He was one of the 12 companions who left Ireland with St. Columcille on his missionary voyage to Scotland. The old Cathedral of Aberdeen was dedicated to him. He died c. 600. (from the notes in the old 4 volume St. Andrew Missal)

In all the diocese of Ireland today was once the feast of St. Livinus who was ordained by St. Augustine of Canterbury, consecrated bishop in Ireland, and became a missionary to Flanders where he was martyred in 633.
